Spearmint, Scotch (Rectified) FCC Essential Oil
Description: Spearmint is a fast-growing perennial herb reaching about 3 feet (1 meter) high with lance-shaped leaves and pink or lilac-colored flowers.
Color & Consistency: A clear water-white to pale yellow, thin liquid.
Strength of Aroma: Strong.
Common Uses: Asthma, exhaustion, fever, headache, nausea, scabies, vertigo. Valued all over the world as a culinary herb, as shown by its folk names (Brown Mint, Garden Mint, Green Mint, Green Spine, Lamb Mint, Mackerel Mint, Mismin, Our Lady's Mint, Spire Mint, Yerba Buena). It was used by the ancient Greeks as a restorative and to scent their bath water. The distilled water is used to relieve hiccough, colic, nausea, indigestion and flatulence. Although not as popular as peppermint oil, this essential oil is far gentler to use with children. On the skin it calms itching and has a stimulant action on the mind.

History: Spearmint is a native of the Mediterranean region, and is a hardy perennial herb that reaches about 3 feet (1 meter) high and has bright green lance-shaped, sharply serrated leaves and pink or lilac-colored flowers. Unlike peppermint, spearmint does not contain high amounts of menthol. The ancient Greeks used it to scent their bath water and it had a reputation for curing sexually-transmitted diseases like gonorrhea. During medieval times it was used to heal sore gums and to whiten teeth.
