In Japanese mythology, Yuki-onna is a tall, beautiful woman with a long mane of wispy hair; serene and inhumanly beautiful, she is winter personified.

With the ability to transform into a cloud of mist, she floats over the snow, leaving no footprints. She is incredibly seductive, but ethereal and elusive. As a guardian of the Forest, she can represent danger but also will protect children as a mother figure. Like the snow and winter weather she represents, Yuki-onna has a softer side. In one popular Yuki-onna legend, for example, she sets a young boy free due to his beauty and age.
