 Label FAQ
• Designing with Labels
Our labels are scored the same way for each sheet when they're printed. That's the same for Avery labels.
No matter how carefully you measure and plan your page layout, if the transport mechanism on your printer isn't accurate, you will have trouble with the paper shifting and the labels not printing where they should. Unless you have a very $$$ professional grade printer, the transport (mechanism that feeds the paper through the printer) will not feed the paper EXACTLY. No matter what program, or which labels you use, that will remain true.
That said, you can prevent a lot of frustration by designing your label so if it's a little bit "off" when you print it, it won't be a problem. For example:
- Don't put text around a circle on the edge, or you'll go nuts trying to prevent the copy from being cut off.
- If you want a colored background, make a square that goes beyond the edges of the circle, and allow the color to print behind the circle.
- Always leave a little room between the edge of the circle (or whatever shape the label takes) and the text.
- For our Weatherproof Labels, make sure you have your software set up for heavy stock if your printer has a setting for this. Consult your printer's User Manual.
- Make sure you run proofs on plain paper, instead of wasting labels.
Here's an example of how you can design a label so it will not matter if it shifts a bit.
The band across the middle with the name is continuous so if the label prints a bit to the left or right, it won't look glaringly bad.
- Leave 1/4" thick of plain bond copy paper under your label sheets to help the transport feed smoothly and not slip.
- Place label sheets all in the same direction; sometimes the top end-margin can be a few mils off from the bottom end-margin.
• Printing with Waterproof Labels
Like all waterproof products printed with normal inkjet inks, this product will show 20% color fading, except black, in a couple of days when heavily and continously exposed to water in spray form or when immersed in water. However, our label stock becomes virtually indestructible if printed with Epson Durabrite inks which are water- and fade-resistant.
We have tested our waterproof label stock with a variety of Canon, Epson and HP printers and inks with varied results. Generally, this product will not work with all combinations of inks and printers. Thus, it is incumbent on the user to test using each ink/printer combination for color consistency, color stability, registration, ink set time, water-proofing, and the like.
Nothing noted herein should be construed as a guarantee of results using any particular ink and/or printer. The user is responsible for determining compatibility.
